Our Process: How We Take Your App From Idea to Launch

ProcessWeb DevelopmentApp Development

Hiring a development studio is a leap of faith if you do not know what happens after you sign. So we want to remove the mystery. This post walks through our web and app development process from first conversation to launch day and beyond: what happens in each phase, what we deliver, what we need from you, and how we keep you in the loop the whole way.

We run every project, from a marketing website to a two-platform mobile app, through the same four phases: Discover, Design, Build, and Launch and grow. The size of each phase flexes with the project, but the shape stays the same, because the shape is what keeps projects from going sideways.

Phase 1: Discover

Every project starts with understanding, not code. In Discover we learn your business, your customers, and what success actually looks like. For a website that might mean the actions you want visitors to take. For an app it means the core problem the product solves and who it solves it for.

What happens: kickoff conversations, a review of anything you already have (existing site, brand materials, sketches, competitor examples), and working sessions to define scope. We ask a lot of questions in this phase on purpose. Cheap questions now prevent expensive rework later.

What you do: show up, talk honestly about your business, and make one important decision: what matters most. Every project has more good ideas than budget, and Discover is where we rank them together.

What you get: a written scope, a project plan with phases and dates, and a clear picture of what the first release includes and what waits for later.

Phase 2: Design

Design is where the product becomes something you can see and react to. We start with structure, then add polish, in that order, because it is far easier to move a box on a wireframe than to redesign a finished screen.

What happens: wireframes map out every screen and flow. Once the structure feels right, we design the real screens: colors, type, imagery, and the details that make a product feel considered rather than assembled. If the project includes brand work, that happens here too.

What you do: give feedback, and give it candidly. This is the cheapest possible moment to change your mind. We would much rather hear "this feels wrong" at the wireframe stage than after launch.

What you get: finished designs for every screen, reviewed and approved by you before we write production code. Nothing gets built that you have not seen.

Phase 3: Build

Build is the longest phase and the one where studios most often go dark. We handle it differently: we build in increments and show you working software as we go.

What happens: we develop the product in slices, with each slice being something you can actually click through. Websites are built on modern frameworks like Next.js. Mobile apps are built in React Native, which means one codebase runs on both iPhone and Android. Testing happens throughout, not just at the end.

What you do: try the work-in-progress builds and tell us what you notice. Real reactions to real software beat any document. You will also start gathering final content, since launch always needs it sooner than expected.

What you get: regular working builds, steady progress updates, and no surprises. If something changes the timeline, you hear it from us early, with options.

Phase 4: Launch and grow

Launch is a milestone, not the finish line. In this phase we take the product live and then help it get better.

What happens: final testing across devices, performance and SEO checks, then deployment. For mobile apps this includes preparing store listings and shepherding the app through Apple and Google review, which we plan buffer time for. After launch we watch how real people use the product and fix the friction fast.

What you do: celebrate, then stay curious. The first weeks of real usage teach you more than months of planning, and the products that win are the ones that act on it.

What you get: a live product, plus a path forward. Many clients continue with a monthly retainer where we keep shipping improvements in small, regular releases. Others take a break and return when the next stage is clear. Both are fine. The engagement models on our services page cover how each works.

How we communicate through all of it

A few habits hold the whole process together:

  • One point of contact on our side who knows your project cold
  • A regular update rhythm, so you never have to ask "what's happening?"
  • Plain language, always. We explain technical tradeoffs in business terms, because you should never need a translator to understand your own project
  • Honest flags, early. If a feature is at risk or a decision is blocking us, you hear about it while there is still time to act

We are a small studio in Covington, Louisiana, and this process is a big part of why clients stick with us. You can read more about who we are on our about page, and see where the process leads on our work page.

FAQ

How involved do I need to be? More at the start, less in the middle. Discover and Design need your attention and decisions. During Build, an hour or two a week to review progress is usually plenty.

What if I want changes partway through? It happens on almost every project, and there is a process for it. We will tell you what the change costs in time and budget, you decide if it is worth it, and either way it is a decision rather than a surprise.

Do you work with clients outside Louisiana? Yes. We are based on the Northshore near New Orleans and love working locally, but our process runs the same way with clients anywhere.

If this sounds like the way you would want your project run, the next step is simple: tell us what you are building. The first conversation costs nothing, and you will leave it with a clearer picture of your own project either way.
